Statement by CAGW President Tom Schatz on the Beginning of the 115th Congress

January 3, 2017 Curtis Kalin

CAGW President Tom Schatz released the following statement on the start of the 115th Congress: Taxpayers have good reason to be optimistic for the New Year. For the first time, the nation will have a president and cabinet with substantial experience managing large, complex organizations; and there’s nothing bigger and more complicated than the federal […]

Beware of Midnight Regulations

December 20, 2016 Curtis Kalin

As President Barack Obama’s term comes to an end, many federal agencies and departments are attempting to beat the clock by jamming a flurry of new regulations onto the books before January 20, 2017.

Taxpayers Fund Absurd Government Marketing

November 17, 2016 Curtis Kalin

According to Gallup, Americans’ trust in government rests near an all-time low.  Gallup’s 2015 survey found that, “Fewer than three-in-ten Americans have expressed trust in the federal government in every major national poll conducted since July 2007 – the longest period of low trust in government in more than 50 years.”  There are copious reasons for this valid opinion.

Washington’s 2016 Year-End Spending Spree

October 20, 2016 Curtis Kalin

As federal fiscal years wind down, a frustrating ritual takes place throughout departments and agencies:  a spending surge on frivolous items in order to avoid budget cuts in the next fiscal year.  The final month of fiscal year 2016 is no exception.

A Cure for Electoral Depression: Focus Final 2016 Presidential Debate on Policy Solutions

October 19, 2016 Curtis Kalin

In a recent poll, a sizable portion of young Americans said they would rather vote for a giant meteor to strike the Earth over either of the two presidential candidates.  There might be a reason for such a dark and depressing result.  The first two presidential debates have utterly failed to discuss important issues facing the nation with any depth, choosing to focus on shenanigans instead of substance.

Clinton/Trump Round 2: Taxpayers Deserve a Policy Debate

October 7, 2016 Curtis Kalin

Before the first Presidential debate on September 27, 2016, CAGW proposed policy questions that would enlighten taxpayers as to where each candidate stands on critical government waste issues facing the nation. Unfortunately, the debate utterly failed to discuss any of these issues with any depth, choosing to focus on shenanigans instead of substance. Hillary Clinton […]

Waste Proliferates Inside the EPA in 2016

September 14, 2016 Curtis Kalin

No department or agency in the federal government is immune from the bureaucratic toxin of waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement.  Ironically, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is responsible for cleaning up all kinds of sewage, sludge, and foul matter, has consistently been one of the most wasteful agencies.  EPA officials have so consistently mismanaged and squandered the taxpayers’ money in 2016 that this year alone should serve as a teachable moment for other federal agencies.

VA Scandal Rages On In 2016

August 18, 2016 Curtis Kalin

One of the most crippling scandals of the Obama administration is poised to outlast the president’s time in office.  The outrageous patient wait times at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) clinics nationwide have not waned since the issue burst into the public consciousness in 2014.  Indeed, the scandal has widened and the depth of the misconduct has continued unabated.
