On January 16, 2020, the Senate ratified the agreement between the United States of America, the United Mexican States, and Canada (USMCA) attached as an Annex to the Protocol Replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement by a vote of 89-10.

The following statement may be attributed to CAGW President Tom Schatz,

Today’s action in the Senate promotes and improves the economies of all three trading partners by modernizing trade practices among the U.S., Canada and Mexico.  Farmers will be helped through the expansion of market access for American food and agriculture products, and auto workers will receive benefits from increased domestic vehicle and automotive parts production and higher wages.

The following statement may be attributed to CAGW Director for Technology and Telecommunications Policy Deborah Collier,

Final ratification of the USMCA will provide stronger intellectual property rights protections for creators in all three countries.  The digital trade chapter will prohibit customs duties and other discriminatory practices from being applied to digital products.  The agreement also encourages and promotes cooperation to increase small and medium-sized business trade and investment opportunities.
