Methane Taxes Will Stifle American Energy Production

The WasteWatcher

The Build Back Better Act (BBB), a monstrous $1.75 trillion bill, is loaded with taxes to pay for big government waste.  The bill contains an $8 billion tax on methane, which will further increase the cost of energy and consumer goods on top of the high inflation levels suffocating the economy.  Americans who use natural gas to heat their homes or businesses will also be significantly impacted.

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has previously warned about these dastardly taxes in the BBBA and the devastating impact they will have on taxpayers and consumers.  Yet, legislators are ignoring these significant costs in a desperate need to fund the biggest expansion of the size, scope, and power of the federal government in decades, if not in history.

They are also ignoring the positive management of U.S. emissions waste over the past several decades.  Even with a 100 percent increase in oil and natural gas production since 1990, U.S. methane emissions have dropped by 16.6 percent.

The increased taxes on methane to push through the Democrats’ radical big-government agenda will both stifle American energy production and push the country further into debt.
