(Washington, D.C.) –Thomas A. Schatz , president of Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), today applauded 29 members of Congress who have voted against the latest round of pork-infested appropriation bills.  The votes took particular courage since the bills because overwhelmingly favored by the Washington special interests.

"These 29 Congressional leaders are leading the principled struggle against the avalanche of ridiculous pork projects receiving money this election year," said Schatz.  “

As of today, three out of thirteen Appropriations bills have passed for FY2001 (Defense, Interior, and Military Construction).  The Energy and Water Appropriation Bill is pending a vote in the Senate, the House has overridden the Presidential Veto (315-98).

It is a tough world for the life of an U.S. Appropriator.  Often viewed as one of the most coveted of committee assignments, the closing days of a congressional season is by far the busiest for these members.  Not only are they trying to come to an agreement for the fiscal year budget of the country, they are at the same time being harassed by special interest requests for money.  One of many outrageous requests is for funding of(waiting for an example from Kerrie).

"I both as a taxpayer and as an American am relieved that honest politicians do exist in Washington. Today we have just found twenty- nine that suit the bill. Congratulations for a job well done."

"On the other side of the coin, it is discontenting to see there are even more members that find it easy to vote on these Appropriation Bills and allow money that belongs to the people to be literally thrown away.  These members should be ashamed of themselves for being so careless and folding to the power of the special interests." Schatz states.

CAGW is pleased to highlight these members and let them know that Americans from Maine to California appreciate their efforts.  Below you will find a listing of the members that have voted no on at least 3-4 Conference Reports.
