Washington, D.C. - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today cheered attorney general James E. Doyle of Wisconsin for signing onto the U.S. Department of Justice's settlement to end the long-running Microsoft antitrust case.
"This is a win-win situation for all involved. The advantages of settling by far outweigh the need to continue the expense of a prolonged litigation process, especially in the current climate. Doyle understands that the safety and well-being of people in Wisconsin is far more important than the law suit," said Thomas A. Schatz.
More than $35 million has been spent on the Microsoft case to date, money that could well have been used to protect our nation from terrorism and secure porous borders pre-September 11th. Now a firm decision has been reached families can finally breath a sigh of relief, relax and watch their portfolios rise again.
"The continuing economic fluctuation in regard to stock prices will only serve to create yet more uncertainty in markets that are already facing a slump this quarter. A conclusion for this case is long overdue. We now urge the remaining six states to reach agreement on a settlement for the benefit of all involved," Schatz concluded.
CAGW is the nation's largest taxpayer advocacy group with over one million members and supporters nationwide. It is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, mismanagement and abuse in government.
