Washington, D.C. – Citing this week’s Congressional Budget Office (CBO) study on Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs), today Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) called for an end to the $10 billion in taxpayer subsidies received by Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac this year. The report is the latest CBO study critical of the GSEs, and shows a substantial hike in government subsidies.
“This analysis is the latest evidence that the ongoing subsidies to these enterprises does not benefit consumers and actively harms private lenders competing in the same market,” CAGW Vice President Leslie K. Paige said. “
CAGW is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with over a million members and supporters, dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in government.
