(Washington, D.C.) – In alliance with Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today announced the winner of the congressman’s Best Worst Pun Contest, held on his website over the past few weeks.

The contest winner is a $2,000,000 earmark to acquire the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Wisconsin, with its corresponding best bad pun: "This mammoth earmark is woolly uncalled for."
“Earmarks have been a mammoth problem, but here’s hoping we’ll experience a big chill when it comes to pork barrel spending,” said Rep. Flake.

Lest anyone worry that earmark foe Flake will soften his stance against government waste now that the House has imposed a ban on congressional earmarking, never fear; in the weeks to come, Rep. Flake will introduce a new weekly spotlight on excessive spending.  Please watch http://flake.house.gov for the debut of this effort; as always, CAGW will be supporting his efforts.

First runner up was $235,000 for noxious weed management by the Department of Agriculture in Nevada and its pun, "Get a goat."

Citizens Against Government Waste is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, mismanagement and abuse in government.
