(Washington, D.C.) – Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) President Tom Schatz issued the following statement after Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) announced his retirement from the U.S. Senate after his current term expires:

“Throughout Sen. Flake’s career in Congress, he has been a steadfast fiscal conservative and leader in the fight to curtail government waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement.  He received a 100 percent rating from the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste eight times, more than any other member of Congress.  His efforts to expose and eliminate earmarks included offering dozens of amendments to appropriations bills over many years in both the House and Senate, and his annual Wastebook has been an invaluable resource to watchdogs and taxpayers alike.  We wish Sen. Flake and his family all the best in the future. He will be greatly missed.”

Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation's largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
