(Washington, D.C.) – Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) released a new Issue Brief, “Reducing the Cost of Government Through Effective Management Reforms,” co-authored by CAGW Federal Government Affairs Associate Cody Leach and CAGW President Tom Schatz, which details how the federal government can reduce wasteful spending and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of federal programs.

Cody Leach and Tom Schatz issued the following statement:

“The national debt is now more than $27.5 trillion, and as Congress continues to consider whether to spend trillions of dollars more on the response to COVID-19, it is essential to reduce waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government, along with increased transparency and accountability.  CAGW was established following the release of the Grace Commission report in 1984, which issued 2,478 recommendations that would save $424 billion over three years.  While savings from Grace Commission and CAGW recommendations have reached more than $1.9 trillion, much more needs to be done.  On behalf of all the hard-working taxpayers across the country, members of Congress should strive to work together to make the government operate more efficiently and effectively.  Reducing the Cost of Government Through Effective Management Reforms will help guide them to achieve that objective.”

Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
