(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) thanked President Trump for lifting up the nation economically and fighting against socialism during last night’s State of the Union (SOTU).
Following the SOTU, CAGW President Tom Schatz issued the following statement:
“As a result of President Trump’s economic policies, including cutting taxes and regulations, unemployment has hit a 50-year low, there are more job openings than job seekers for the first time on record, and the U.S. went from an energy importer to exporter. The trade deals he negotiated will create millions of new jobs. The President drew a contrast to the success of the American way of life and our economic policies by making clear the devastating consequences of socialism, saying, ‘Socialism destroys nations. But always remember: Freedom unifies the soul.’ He also said that ‘we will never let socialism destroy healthcare’ and a single-payer system ‘will take away your healthcare, take away your doctor, and abolish private insurance entirely.’
“President Ronald Reagan said, ‘One of the traditional ways of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine.’ We agree that a government takeover of the healthcare system, like Medicare for All, would be a significant step toward the government taking over other industries and turning the U.S. into a socialist country.
“Thank you, President Trump, for putting taxpayers first, keeping our economy strong, fighting for the American way of life, and rejecting socialism.”
Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
