A pencil pusher at the New York State Liquor Authority has sued the state of New York because she has not been given enough work to do. Pat Freund???an employee of the Liquor Authority for the last 25 years???is ???earning??? $100,000 a year for sitting at her desk, reading, and filling out crossword puzzles. Not content with idle work, Freund is seeking to reclaim responsibilities that were allegedly taken away from her after she criticized fellow employees for attending a prayer breakfast held by New York Governor George Pataki back in 2000.

Deficit Doldrums

President Bush and the 109th Congress sailed into the New Year expecting a record $427 billion budget deficit for fiscal 2005 an amazing feat considering the economy has grown steadily for three years. This fiscal monkey business becomes even more audacious if one considers the negative impact it is having on the dollar's power and America's role in the global economy.
