Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) will release its latest investigative report at a news conference scheduled for Tuesday, February 9, 1999, at 10:00 a.m. in room HC-7 of the U.S. Capitol.  The report, entitled Federal Assault on High Tech:  Is the Government Wired or Just Unplugged?, charges Washington bureaucrats with orchestrating a misguided, costly and unpopular assault against the high tech industry.  Copies of the report will be available at the news conference.

With few exceptions, the federal government has repeatedly shown itself incapable of taking advantage of new technologies to make its services more efficient.  In fact, the federal government is teetering on the brink of a technological Armageddon, with far too few of its systems Y2K compliant.  Yet, despite countless examples of ineptitude on the part of government administrators, official Washington insists on meddling in high tech industries, sometimes at the insistence of disgruntled competitors.  The cost of litigation, regulation and taxation on the country’s most successful industry is questioned in the CAGW report.

CAGW is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, mismanagement and abuse in government.
