Washington, D.C. – Citizens Against Government Waste today released its preliminary analysis of the House version of the fiscal year (FY) 2012 Energy & Water Development Appropriations Act.  The bill includes 24 projects at a cost of $30.6 billion, a 3 percent decrease from the $31.6 billion in the FY 2011 version and $5.9 billion below the President’s FY 2012 request. 


“While we commend House Republicans for submitting a bill that would lower spending in a significant portion of government, there are further cuts that should be made,” said CAGW President Tom Schatz.  “Further, it is imperative that the money saved from each spending cut in the bill be returned to the treasury and used for deficit reduction, rather than reallocated.”  CAGW compared the FY 2012 budget to its 2012 Prime Cuts recommendations and found the following opportunities to cut wasteful spending:
