(Washington D.C.) – Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), America’s premier waste-fighting organization, will host a news conference on Thursday, July 9, 1998, to announce the filing of an amicus curiae brief in the case of United Seniors Association et al v. Donna Shalala.  CAGW has joined with eight other public policy groups in filing an amicus brief this week in support of the suit to protect the rights of Medicare beneficiaries to pay out-of-pocket for routine medical services.

Joining CAGW at the news conference will be the United Seniors Association, a plaintiff in the original suit, as well as representatives of the public policy groups jointly filing the amicus brief.  Those groups are as follows:  The American Civil Liberties Union of the National Capital Area, the Atlantic Legal Foundation, the Arlington County (Va.) Medical Society, the Landmark Legal Foundation, The Association for Liberty, Choice and Self-Autonomy, the Seniors Coalition, the 60-Plus Association, and the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

For more information, please contact Jim Campi or Shawn Rychling at 202-467-5300.  Copies of the amicus brief will be available at the news conference.
