Reid Deserts MagLev Boondoggle: CAGW Applauds the Termination

(Washington, D.C.) - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), the nation’s premier taxpayer watchdog organization, today claimed a victory after it was reported in the Las Vegas Sun that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has backed away from his support for the boondoggle, an ultramodern magnetic levitated train which was estimated to cost taxpayer $12 billion to connect Victorville, California to Las Vega, Nevada.
“It was obvious from the start that Sen. Reid was living in la-la land. There was a private sector company already But even in his recommendation to terminate the program, Defense Secretary Robert Gates acknowledged that a new fleet of presidential helicopters is necessary due to the advanced age and technological limitations of the current fleet. In a post-9/11 world, there is broad consensus that the President should not be flying Vietnam-era technology.
