Washington, D.C. – The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) and a diverse coalition of groups will hold a press conference in support of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (S. 2590). Sponsored by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), it would establish a public database for $800 billion worth of federal grants and contracts.
What: Press Conference / Rally for S. 2590
Who: Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, National Taxpayers Union, OMB Watch, and
other groups.
When: Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. EST
Where: U.S. Capitol, Room SC-4
Many of the groups participating were part of the grassroots Internet campaign that helped to unmask Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) as the lawmaker who placed an anonymous legislative “hold” on the bill. The press conference will call on Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) to immediately bring S. 2590 to the floor for a vote.
The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste is a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
