(Washington, D.C.) - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), the nation’s premiere taxpayer watchdog, in conjunction with the Virginia Institute for Public Policy (VIPP), will release the 2005 Virginia Piglet Book at a press conference on Tuesday, October 18. The report details $2.4 billion in wasteful spending in the state budget.
What: Virginia Piglet Book Release
Who: Citizens Against Government Waste and the Virginia Institute for Public Policy
When: October 18, 2005 at 11:15 a.m.
Where: Bull and Bear Club, 901 E. Cary Street, 21st Floor, Richmond, VA
Featured speakers will include CAGW President Tom Schatz, VIPP President John Taylor, Virginia State Senator Ken Cuccinelli, and Delegate Bill Janis. CAGW’s mascot Porky will also be in attendance.
The Virginia Piglet Book combines elements of two perennial CAGW publications, the Congressional Pig Book and Prime Cuts, with the Virginia Institute’s knowledge of the Virginia state budget. The report exposes many areas in the state budget where wasteful spending can be eliminated, providing a valuable resource to legislators and taxpayers.
From obsolete and duplicative programs such as the Depression-era Virginia Milk Commission to unnecessary and wasteful institutions like the $3.2 million Virginia Commission of the Arts, the Virginia Piglet Book offers enough examples to make any Virginia taxpayer cringe.
Hard copies will be distributed at the press conference. The report will also be available online at www.cagw.org and www.virginiainstitute.org. For answers to further questions, to schedule an interview, or to order a hard copy, please contact Tom Finnigan (202-467-5309, media@cagw.org) or John Taylor (703-753-5900, JTaylor@virginiainstitute.org).
