May 14, 2007;

(Washington, D.C.) – Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), the nation’s premiere taxpayer watchdog, in conjunction with the Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR), Tennessee’s free market think tank, will release the 2007 Tennessee Pork Report: State Government Gone Hog Wild at a press conference on Tuesday, May 15.  The report is the latest in CAGW’s series of Piglet Books, which expose wasteful spending by state governments.

What:    Tennessee Pork Report Release

Who:    Tennessee Center for Policy Research and Citizens Against Government Waste

When:   Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 10:30 a.m.

Where:  Senate Library in the Tennessee State Capitol (Across from the Senate Chamber)

Featured speakers will include CAGW Vice President of Policy David Williams and TCPR President Drew Johnson.  CAGW mascot Porky will also be in attendance.

The Tennessee Pork Report combines elements of two perennial CAGW publications, the Congressional Pig Book and Prime Cuts, with TCPR’s knowledge of the Tennessee state budget.  The report exposes many areas in the state budget where wasteful spending can be eliminated, providing a valuable resource to legislators and taxpayers.

From $1 million to give state workers a free bus ride to work to $21,279 for new carpet in the office of the Speaker of the House, the Pork Report offers enough examples to make any Tennessee taxpayer cringe.

Hard copies will be distributed at the press conference.  The report will also be available online at www.cagw.org and www.tennesseepolicy.org.  For answers to further questions, to schedule an interview, or to order a hard copy, please contact Alexa Moutevelis (202-467-5318, amoutevelis@cagw.org) or Nicole Williams (615-383-6431, editor@tennesseepolicy.org).
