(Washington, D.C.) – Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), the nation’s premiere taxpayer watchdog, in conjunction with the Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR), Tennessee’s free market think tank, will release the 2008 Tennessee Pork Report: Waste, Fraud and Abuse of Your Tax Dollars Exposed at a press conference on Wednesday, April 23.  The report is the third Tennessee Pork Report in as many years to expose wasteful spending by the state.

What:    Tennessee Pork Report Release

Who:    Tennessee Center for Policy Research and Citizens Against Government Waste

When:   Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.

Where:  Senate Library in the Tennessee State Capitol (Across from the Senate Chamber)

Featured speakers will include CAGW Vice President of Policy David Williams and TCPR Director of Government Accountability Trent Seibert.  CAGW mascot PigFoot will also be in attendance.

The Tennessee Pork Report combines elements of two perennial CAGW publications, the Congressional Pig Book and Prime Cuts, with TCPR’s knowledge of the Tennessee state budget.  The report exposes many areas in the state budget where wasteful spending can be eliminated, providing a valuable resource to legislators and taxpayers.

From the tens of thousands of dollars added to the cost of renovating the Tennessee Governor’s Mansion for a wet bar, accent lighting and major kitchen overhaul to a loss of $1,434,669 in state-owned golf course expenses, the Pork Report offers enough examples to make any Tennessee taxpayer cringe.

Hard copies will be distributed at the press conference.  The report will also be available online at www.cagw.org and www.tennesseepolicy.org.  For answers to further questions, to schedule an interview, or to order a hard copy, please contact Alexa Moutevelis (202-467-5318, amoutevelis@cagw.org) or Drew Johnson (615-383-6431, drew@tennesseepolicy.org).
