National watchdog joins the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association to chronicle cash-strapped state’s bloat

(Washington, D.C.) Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today announced the scheduled release of the California Piglet Book, in conjunction with the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association (HJTA), Thursday, September 25, 2003 at 10 A.M. in Sacramento.

The California Piglet Book combines elements of two perennial CAGW publications, the Congressional Pig Book and Prime Cuts, both published annually and dealing with federal government pork and waste.  As part of its on-going examination of waste at every level of government, CAGW has chosen California as the third state in its series of state Piglet Books.  The California Piglet Book details examples of waste in the state budget that if eliminated, could help reduce the $38 billion deficit.  On hand at the unveiling will be CAGW President Tom Schatz, HJTA Executive Director Kris Vosburgh, and CAGW’s pig mascot.

CAGW has 167,000 members and supporters in California.
