(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) President Tom Schatz released the following statement opposing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s $12 billion bailout of U.S. farmers hurt by the Trump administration’s trade war.
CAGW President Tom Schatz said in a statement:
“The Trump administration is compounding the consequences of the trade war by proposing a $12 billion bailout intended to soften the economic blow caused by the administration’s own tariffs. This regressive, circular economic logic will harm American workers, consumers, and taxpayers. Instead of using taxpayer dollars to bailout victims of President Trump’s trade war, the administration should remove destructive tariffs and begin to engage in free and open trade, which will benefit farmers and all Americans.”
CAGW is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
