(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) President Tom Schatz released the following statement opposing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s additional round of bailout payments to U.S. farmers hurt by the Trump administration’s ongoing trade war.
CAGW President Tom Schatz said in a statement:
“The Trump administration is continuing to compound the consequences of the president’s trade war by approving another round of bailouts intended to soften the economic blow caused by the administration’s own tariffs. This self-defeating, circular economic logic will put a damper on an economy revving from tax cuts and deregulation. Instead of using taxpayer dollars to bail out victims of President Trump’s trade war, the administration should remove these damaging tariffs and begin to engage in free and open trade, which will benefit farmers and all Americans.”
Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
