(Washington, D.C.) - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), the nation’s premiere taxpayer watchdog, in conjunction with the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions, today released Kentucky: Unbridled Pork at a press conference. It is the tenth report in CAGW’s Piglet Book series, which exposes wasteful spending by state governments.
Piglet Books combine elements of two perennial CAGW publications, the Congressional Pig Book and Prime Cuts, with a local organization’s knowledge of the state budget. Kentucky: Unbridled Pork exposes many areas where wasteful spending can be eliminated, providing a valuable resource to legislators and taxpayers.
From funding a Disney-like display in an abandoned coal mine to subsidizing shrimp farming in a land-locked state, Kentucky: Unbridled Pork offers enough examples to make any Kentucky taxpayer cringe.
“Kentucky lawmakers should be ashamed of themselves for using taxpayer money to fund ridiculous projects such as maintaining 20 golf courses,” said CAGW Vice President of Policy David Williams. “Instead of helping golfers improve their handicap on the state’s dime, elected officials should worry about how they are fiscally handicapping future generations.”
