(Washington, D.C.) – Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), America’s largest taxpayer watchdog group, applauded the creation of the White House Office of American Innovation.  The effort is being promoted as a “SWAT team to fix government with business ideas.”

CAGW President Tom Schatz said in a statement: “President Trump should be celebrated for continuing his push to foster a more efficient, frugal, and fiscally responsible government.  This commitment is a breath of fresh air to address bureaucratic atrophy.  A SWAT team attitude is perhaps the best approach that a president can take to tackle the insidious, longstanding problem of government waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement, as the new Office of American Innovation will have broad power to implement successful business practices to streamline and shrink government.  This effort is reminiscent of President Reagan’s Grace Commission, which also deployed an army of successful business leaders to work ‘like tireless bloodhounds’ with an eye toward bringing private sector innovation to the operations of the federal government.  Since CAGW was established following the release of the Grace Commission report in 1984, $1.5 trillion has been saved through the implementation of the commission’s findings and other cost-cutting recommendations.  The creation of this new office closely follows the release of President Trump’s Executive Order ‘directing the Office of Management and Budget to submit a comprehensive plan to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability of the executive branch,’ including the elimination or reorganization of redundant or unnecessary federal agencies.  It is clear the President is serious about achieving the goal of a more effective and less wasteful government.  CAGW looks forward to providing input to the office’s leader, Senior White House Advisor Jared Kushner.”

CAGW is the nation's largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
