(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) launched the first of three videos in the “shocking” campaign series to draw widespread attention to the outrageous and continuous growth of wasteful government spending. The campaign, a trio of provocatively creative videos, also features a landing page that identifies specific examples of wasteful spending along with numerous reports and commentary.
The “shocking” campaign videos are intended to educate taxpayers, the media, and elected officials about the need to take action now to end waste, fraud, and mismanagement in Washington. They will launch each day at 8:00 a.m. from today through October 17. These videos are part of CAGW’s ongoing efforts to uncover, expose and eliminate wasteful spending.
Since 1984, CAGW has been at the forefront of the effort to eliminate government waste by providing unique and creative media campaigns such as the “Chinese Professor,” which ran from 2010 through 2012, and promoting the provocative “Deficit Trials” ad in 1986. The “shocking” campaign is being launched to jolt taxpayers and elected officials into doing something significant about wasteful spending throughout the government.
The national debt is estimated to increase to $17.5 trillion by the end of 2013, eventually amounting to $25.9 trillion in 2022. With the national debt currently at $16.7 trillion, every man, woman and child in the U.S. population of 316,819,148 owes $53,532 as his or her share of the debt, or $148,166 for each taxpayer.
“If government spending is not brought under control, we will be the first generation to leave the next generation worse off than we are now,” said Tom Schatz, President of CAGW. “Leaving our children and grandchildren with a massive debt and a lower standard of living is both a fiscal and moral issue. We hope our shocking campaign will provoke politicians to put an end to profligate spending.”
CAGW is a private, non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, mismanagement, and inefficiency in government.
