(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Tom Schatz, President of Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), issued a letter to Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti requesting information under the California Public Records Act on the Computer Sciences Services Corporation’s (CSC) contract with the city of Los Angeles.  The letter is being released on the same day that the City Council agreed to request a status report on the contract.  The letter reads in part:

“CAGW has raised questions since August 2009 about the cost savings calculations and security and privacy issues surrounding the CSC contract for e-mail and office productivity applications.  These concerns have been exacerbated by the Los Angeles Chief Technology Officer’s Notice of Deficiencies dated November 24, 2010, and her Proposed Second Amendment to the contract with CSC dated August 17, 2011. 

“I am requesting the following information relative to the contract entered into between the city of Los Angeles and CSC:

1. All of the city of Los Angeles’ documents concerning the contract dated later than November 24, 2010…
2. All documents provided by CSC or Google, Inc. to the city in response to all city queries regarding security features, costs, delays or other issues related to the contract and its deployment …
3. All documents relating to the total cost to taxpayers for the Google Apps deployment …
4. All documentation relating to a new estimate of savings for the cloud software solution now that only approximately 17,000 employees will be moving over to Google Apps instead of the 30,000 estimated in the original contract.
5. All documentation explaining how LAPD and other protective service agencies will collect, manage and use information from agencies that are using Google Apps …
6. All documentation relating to the number of licenses or seats for Google Apps for any productivity and email applications purchased by the city of Los Angeles as part of the contract that are not being used by employees, and the cost to taxpayers for these unused licenses.
7. Transcripts of the closed session meetings held on April 14, 2011 and October 26, 2011, as well as any other closed meetings or communications relating to the contract.
8. Transcripts of the closed session meeting that will be held on November 2, 2011 in relation to the status report requested by the City Council on October 26, 2011, and any subsequent meetings related to the contract.”
