(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) is proud to announce that Bill Christian has joined the taxpayer watchdog group as director of government affairs.

“I am thrilled to be back in the trenches, fighting the good fight,” said Christian.  “CAGW has long been at the forefront of rooting out wasteful spending and duplicative programs, and I am honored to be associated with such an outstanding team of dedicated professionals.  Our work is more critical now than ever.  The federal government’s increasingly wasteful spending presents an unprecedented opportunity for taxpayer watchdogs like CAGW, and I am excited to be a part of the team.”

A nine-year veteran of then-Senator Phil Gramm’s staff, Christian has served in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush.  His congressional career began in the offices of Senator John Tower and Rep. Tom Loeffler, while his last position on Capitol Hill was chief of staff for Rep. John Culberson – all Texas Republicans.  A 1995 graduate of the Naval War College, Christian retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 2011, after 20 years as a commissioned officer and seven years prior enlisted service.   He holds a B.A. in Government from The University of Texas at Austin.

In addition to serving on the board of the Texas State Society of Washington, D.C., Christian is the current president of the National Conference of State Societies.  He is an active member of the Capitol Hill United Methodist Church, as well as a commissioner in the U.S. Senate Softball League and manager of The RBIs of Texas (formerly, the Gramm Slammers).

“I have known Bill for many years, both personally and professionally, and it is an honor to introduce him as the newest member of the CAGW staff.  His experience and dedication will be invaluable to defending the interests of taxpayers,” said CAGW President Tom Schatz.
