“Congress, Can You Spare a Dime?” Citizen’s Demand
Whereas, America is falling $2.8 million every minute, or $4 billion every day, deeper into debt;
Whereas, our national debt now exceeds 100 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), and as Greece and Italy are demonstrating today, when a nation’s debt exceeds its GDP, insolvency is not far away;
Whereas, Washington is in gridlock and individual spending cuts in even the most obviously wasteful programs are difficult to achieve because no one can agree on the same set of cuts and everyone has a different list of priorities;
Whereas, America is being financially destroyed by President Obama and his big-spending allies in Congress who refuse to curb their unprecedented deficits which now top a staggering $1 trillion annually;
Whereas, a recent Gallup poll showed that a large majority of Americans believe that more than 50 percent of federal spending is wasted;
Whereas, cutting 10 percent of their budgets is the least that every business and family must do when faced with a financial crisis;
Whereas, if Congress would cut spending by just 10 percent, or a dime for every dollar it spends, it would slam the brakes on the rapidly deteriorating state of our nation’s finances;
Whereas, “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?” which is known as “the anthem of the Great Depression,” can play a critical role in saving America from financial collapse today if Americans ask, “Congress, Can You Spare a Dime?” and demand that Washington cut spending by 10 percent, or a dime for every dollar it spends;
Whereas, this “Congress, Can You Spare a Dime?” National Campaign will work where other plans fail because it will be an across-the-board cut that will affect everyone equally;
Whereas, with America sinking so rapidly into debt, we cannot wait and hope that the elections will result in magical changes that will save America;
I, therefore, join the call, “Congress, Can You Spare a Dime?” and demand that federal spending be immediately cut by 10 percent.
