Vote 'YES' on H.R. 3400

November 15, 2011

U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC  20515

Dear Representative,

Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) of the Republican Study Committee recently introduced H.R. 3400, the Jobs Through Growth Act.  This legislation would help put Americans back to work and grow the economy by reforming the tax code, cutting spending, and eliminating burdensome regulations.  On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support this legislation.

On October 11, 2011, the Senate voted 50-49 against President Obama’s American Jobs Act, and in doing so, rejected another round of wasteful Keynesian stimulus spending.  In order to get the economy back on its feet, Congress must look for alternatives to the failed policies of the last three years.

The Jobs Through Growth Act is a combination of pro-growth bills offered by various members of Congress that would kick-start the economy and put Americans back to work.  It presents a stark contrast to the “jobs through spending” policies of the Obama administration.  The bill would simplify the tax code and reduce the corporate and individual income tax rates to a maximum of 25 percent, which would encourage greater investment by U.S. companies.  The legislation would reform the current onerous regulatory process by requiring lawmakers to consider a proposed rule’s impact on small businesses and implementing a moratorium on any significant regulatory action until the unemployment rate is at or below 7.7 percent.  Additionally, many existing prohibitions on offshore energy production would be lifted, which would encourage domestic energy production, reduce dependence on foreign oil, and immediately create jobs.  Other important facets of the legislation include permanent repeal of the death tax and an increase in the level for exemption for small businesses from many rules from 50 to 200 employees.

It is time for lawmakers to get serious about addressing the major impediments to economic growth and job creation.  The Jobs Through Growth Act would revamp the economy by creating jobs in the private sector, not in government.  I strongly urge you to support this important legislation.  All votes on the H.R. 3400 will be among those considered in CCAGW’s 2011 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Thomas Schatz,
President
