It is None of Their Damn Business!

Last month the New Jersey Comptroller released a report on widespread fraud in their state’s school lunch program.  More than 100 people on public payrolls, or members of their family, lied about their income in order to get their children on the free school lunch program.  One school board member did not report any of her substitute teaching salary as required when filling out an application form to participate in the program.  In response when asked why, she told investigators “It is none of their damn bu

The Article 1 President

All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

As the U.S. Constitution clearly states, it is the Legislative Branch that writes law.  The role of the Executive Branch and the president is to enforce the laws.  But disturbingly, the Obama Administration has changed another provision in Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

I See Dead People

A Government Accountability Office report released June 28 has an eye catching headline, “USDA Needs to Do More to Prevent Improper Payments to Deceased Individuals.”  Yup, here we go again, our government using our tax dollars to pay dead people.

Internal Revenue (Dis)Service

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is under heavy scrutiny after a report by the Inspector General (IG) at the Treasury Department. Recent videos have surfaced showing IRS employees practicing the popular dance, “the cupid shuffle” and parodying Star Trek. Costing more than $50,000, these videos add visual representations of the service’s recent misuse of tax dollars.

Another IRS Box-Office Hit!

We’ve heard a lot about the IRS’s over-the-top targeting and harassment of conservative and tea party groups and how the agency delayed the groups’ applications for non-profit status.  But the hits just keep coming for the IRS.  This past weekend, we were treated to the spectacle of IRS employees doing a tax-payer funded line dance in preparation for a 2010 conference that was held in Anaheim, California.  This episode and other wasteful conference expenditures will be the target of a hearing by the House Oversight and Government Refo

Peeling Back Another Onion

As I wrote last week, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has gotten herself into some hot water concerning her solicitation for donations for non-profit groups that will help with the implementation of Obamacare.  She asked for donations from corporations, some of which are regulated by HHS, and foundations.

Show Me the Money

The Washington Post had an interesting column a few days ago.  It seems Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is asking for more money from health industry officials to help implement Obamacare since Congress is refusing to provide more funds.  While the effort is caged as asking for “donations” it does not take someone from Mensa International to know this is very questionable behav

Nothing New Under the IRS Sun

By now I am sure you have heard that the IRS targeted and harassed Tea Party and conservative groups that were trying to obtain non-profit status.  If a group used words like “tea party” or “patriot” in their organization’s name or the phrase “making America a better place to live” it was enough to raise the ire of some IRS bureaucrats who would then slow-walk their application for non-profit standing with the agency.  The IRS would also ask of the groups for information that were an unnecessary or illegal intrusion into their affairs such as a list of their donors, whether one of the organ

Checking in on contractor waste

In March of 2009, President Obama delivered a speech on procurement at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in which he excoriated the outgoing administration for its irresponsible spending on government contracts.
